MeWe involves young people in arts activities based in African & Afro-Caribbean culture:
Productions
MeWe stages productions from the planning & co-ordination phase through to staging and evaluation. These multi-media productions include drama, music & dance. MeWe youth members are involved in the planning, staging, technical management and, of course, performance aspects of all productions.
Workshops
MeWe delivers workshops
as extra-curricular activities or for special occasions on the calendar. These are fully resourced by us and can be devised to explore various themes on request.
Identity Studies
‘Identity Studies’ is a new curriculum devised by Ann-Marie Olufuwa. The aim of the units of work she has created is to engender a sense of self-esteem, personal empowerment and increased stability in the social environment. The material is delivered through Drama, Music and conventional classroom methods and is aimed at the 11-18 year old age group.
The topics are wide-ranging. Examples include:
· Music, Poetry and Literature from a selection of eras
· Black and British - Our identity and experiences
· Myself - Physicality, media presentation and self-perception.
· Black History; role models and celebrations
· 10,000 years of African arts and crafts
Film & Music
The Mewe mobile recording studio allows the creation of audio-visual recordings of young people’s songs, rhymes and thoughts. To record a CD single can take just 2 days. Beats, Rhymes & Freedom is a CD documentary about Nelson Mandela.
